Pre-CanSkate - 2 ten week sessions October to December and January to March
PreCanSkate introduces 3 year olds to skating in a once weekly, 1/2 hour session. Children will learn fundamental skating skills such as standing up, balance, falling down and getting back up, making snow and step to glide in a fun, safe, play environment. Personal and social skills are also developed as this may be the first organized activity these children participate in without their parents. The focus is on making the ice a fun place while learning skills through play. A low skater to coach ratio ensures that skaters get the attention the require at this age. Skaters move to the CanSkate program when they are 4 years old.
CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of any age that teaches fundamental movements and basic skills.
CanSkate - 2 ten week sessions October to December and January to March
Children ages 4 and up learn to skate the proper way, safely in two 3/4 hour sessions per week. This program is good for any future skating activities such as Figure Skating, Hockey, Ringette or recreational skating, and each skater is evaluated by one of our coaches. CanSkaters will learn: correct technique for forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, spinning, jumping, basic four edges. This will help improve the skater’s balance, coordination and rhythm.
Throughout the CanSkate program, skaters have several options. They may move into the Bridging or STARSkate program. One of the club Coaches will be able to advise as to the program best suited for each skater as they become ready for advancement. There is no pre-requisite for skaters moving from one program to the next.
